Joseph Forkin, president of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC), will review current and future plans on “Transforming the Delaware Riverfront,” 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at Historic Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church.
Admission is $10, which includes a drink ticket for a beverage of your choice (alcoholic or non-alcoholic).
Amazing changes along the riverside
Under Forkin’s leadership, in recent years DRWC has developed the Race Street Pier, Spruce Street Harbor Park, Cherry Street Pier and Penn’s Landing Winterfest along six miles of waterfront between Oregon Avenue and Allegheny Avenue.
And it’s in the midst of putting a giant cap on I-95 and creating a new 11.5 -acre Park at Penn’s Landing that connects the city to the heart of the waterfront.
Since 2012, says Condé Nast Traveler, DRWC “has been slowly transforming the stretch of riverfront between Oregon and Allegheny Avenues, adding public parks, running and biking trails, and spaces for recreational and cultural activities—all with the goal of giving Philadelphia’s public spaces a beautifying boost for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
“Great Talks at Gloria Dei”
Part of “Great Talks at Gloria Dei,” this program will take place inside the church sanctuary. A Meet-and-Mingle reception will follow in nearby Riverside Hall where Mr. Forkin will answer questions. For a modest donation, you can sample delicious gourmet desserts paired with wine, coffee or tea at the reception.
This program is hosted by the Historic Gloria Dei Preservation Corporation. One hundred percent of the funds raised from this event will go toward the preservation of Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church and its graveyard.
