Dear People of Gloria Dei,
I write to share the news that a long time parishioner, Sally Daly, passed away earlier this week. Sally made a definite mark on the world around her, and on Gloria Dei - and she always had a new joke to share with me any time we interacted. I was also impressed by her life-long relationship with Jesus, and I am confident that she is now at peace in his presence.
Sally's funeral will be held this coming Monday, January 6, at 10:30. A viewing will take place at the funeral home prior to the service, and the burial will immediately follow the service. Full details can be found in Sally's obituary, below. Please join me in praying for her and her family.
Peace,
Rev. Chris
Obituary:
Sara Ann Daly, affectionately known to many as "Sally" passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2024. She was 91 years old. Sally was the beloved wife of late Robert Joseph Daly Jr. and loving mother of Barbara Ann Liccio (Richard), Robert Joseph Daly III (Bridget), and Marc Christopher Daly.
She was devoted grandmother (Nan) to Erin Perno, Christine Wilkinson (Brian), Nicole Liccio, Courtney Daly, and Robert Joseph Daly IV (Brittany). She was the cherished great grandmother (Nanny Nuk) to Robert Joseph Daly V, Zoey Rae Daly, Anthony Michael Perno, Molly Rose Perno, Michael Robert Perno, Zoey Lynne Wilkinson, and Owen Robert Wilkinson.
Sally was known for her positive outlook on life, her unique sense of humor, her devout Episcopal faith and her strong will to squeeze every ounce of joy out of life. Sally did not let age stop her from having fun - from sky diving and riding water rapids to religious missions and church retreats - she really did it all.
Sally was born in South Philadelphia and was proud to call it home. She loved spending time at the South Philadelphia Older Adults Center where she had made many friends who will miss her dearly. She loved cheering on (and sometimes booing) her two favorite teams - the Phillies and the Eagles. She loved trying new foods, reading new books, and when she could, loved to walk and explore new areas.
She will be deeply missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing and Funeral, Monday, January 6, 2025 after 8 AM until 10 AM from the Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426-30 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM from Gloria Dei (Old Swedes) Church, 916 South Swanson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. Interment will follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA.
